Secondary Student Council

Hello everyone! Student Council hopes that you all had a great summer! To all new students and staff, welcome to Chatsworth!

With a new school year comes a new batch of representatives.

Introducing from left to right: Sam Lee, Andrea Raz, and Kaede Nyudo.

We are very excited to be a part of Student Council, and hope that we will be able to make this year enjoyable for everyone.

Student Council is planning a lot of fun and exciting new events for the upcoming school year. One of these events is our Welcome Back BBQ. Not only will you get to enjoy delicious food, but also compete with your (new) friends as we kick off our House competitions.

Among other events, we are preparing for our annual Spirit Week and fundraising for organizations like Blue Dragon and Caring for Cambodia. Different House competitions will occur throughout the year, so make sure you participate and help earn points for your House. A trophy cup awaits at the end of the school year for the winning House.

Behind the scenes, Student Council also hopes to work with teachers and staff in different committees that may impact our student well being, while at the same time ensuring a fun, memorable, and fantastic year ahead.

MYP Coordinator Message

Chatsworth International School has earned its official IB MYP authorization. This is exciting news that celebrates the commitment of our school leadership, faculty, students and community to developing IB learners. What a great way to kick off a new school year! I look forward to seeing MYP learning throughout the secondary school deep questioning, exploring big ideas, creating connections across cultures and across subject areas. For parents who would like to learn more about the MYP program, please attend a parent talk: An Introduction to the MYP scheduled for September 17th at 6pm.

For more details or questions please email our IBMYP Coordinator, Phavana Silva at

A Year In Fundraising

Last academic year we saw both Primary and Secondary students and
teachers involved in a number of fundraising activities.  A lot of work goes into planning and hosting fundraising events. Our school has a Fundraising Policy to help you organize your fundraising event. Here are 7 steps to help you successfully organise your event and complete the fundraising application.

1. What is the purpose of the event? Before doing anything else, you must decide what the purpose of your event is. The Fundraising Application guides you through identifying your goals for the event. Figuring out these details for your event will depend on knowing what goals you are trying to
achieve.

2. What is your budget? List all the expenses and costs needed to hold the event. Will this money be taken out of the funds raised? Or will it be donated? This is also a question on the Fundraising Application.

3. Who are the people organising the event? On the Fundraising Application

list the names of the people who are responsible for organising and preparing the event. One must be a teacher overseeing the event.

4. Who is your target audience? Is this a fundraising event for the whole school? Or is the event just for Primary or for Secondary?

5. How will you advertise your fundraising event? You must make an advertising poster and include it with your Fundraising Application. You must include ‘when, where and why’ on your poster.

6. Getting your event approved. You must submit a complete Fundraising Application and then wait of it to be approved before you can start advertising your event.

7. The big day. Make sure you have everything set up before the start of your event. After the event, you must count the money raised and complete the Money Raised Form. Give the form and the money to the admissions office.

Funds we raised in 2014/2015
Singapore Cancer Society - $600
Blue Dragon - $3649.90
SPCA Singapore - $201.65
International Women’s Day - $375
Nepal relief - $3912.65
Year13 Prom - $2587.00

IGCSE update

Since the beginning of this century IGCSE exams have been a fixture in the Chatsworth landscape, being a culmination of studies in Years 10 and 11 before students begin the IB Diploma. We have always been pleased with our results and the IGCSE class of 2015  didn't let us down with a fantastic 99% pass rate, and 10 of the 27 students scoring the highest grade of A* in at least one subject.

With the introduction of the MYP, the new Year 11 will be our last group of students ever to be sitting the IGCSEs!  Please wish them all the best as you see them in the hallways over the next few months, especially if you see them waiting outside the exam rooms in Block 4 during their mock exams in February or final exams in May.

Welcome Back Secondary!

Welcome back to a new school year!

It is amazing that we are already underway with a few weeks of school already behind us! Special thanks to all the students who were involved in so many activities so far, most especially the New Student Orientation Programme (nearly a dozen of our students came in during their summer holidays to welcome new students) and also the Student Council Welcome Back BBQ - another great success. Student Council is especially hard working this year. Planning the year ahead with a "Lock-In Sleep-Over".

Our Curriculum Enhancement Week (CEW) Programme is also now underway, please remember to register asap to meet the deadlines. We have a lot of flight bookings needing to be done and final bookings for all the amazing trips that our students will be taking.

We wish you the very best year ever. Most importantly, get involved!

School Spirit Days in Secondary

Photos from the last day of school in December, before we ended for the semester break. Led by Mr Cheung, our Student Council Supervisor, we enjoyed the most amazing school spirit week that we have ever seen at Chatsworth. At times the cheers and enthusiasm from the hall could be heard from the front carpark.

Thank you also to Yana Ricart for coordinating our end of semester assembly, another success!

Chatsworth is 20 years old.

At our 20th Anniversary Dinner in December 2015. A great night!

Teacher Professional Development

We hold a lot of professional development opportunities for teachers, whether off campus at IB courses (or other educational courses) or at Chatsworth. Whether within year levels, departments, or whole school.

In December, we led teachers through a process of understanding principles of learning. It was a fantastic discussion, amongst Primary and Secondary teachers, about how each of us view learning, and what is important when considering learning.

Student Artwork in Secondary

This is one of my favourite pieces of student artwork, ever.

It is the product of Mr Lister's art Year 9 (2013-14) MYP art class ... and what makes it amazing is that it is a community (class) project. Students across several art classes all worked together, on different parts of the art, on 2 giant tables.
